SAT写作文章阅读理解,你能拿几分

SAT写作,从2016年新SAT改制后从必考项,调整成为了选考项,考试时间和出题方式也和之前大有不同。

在当前的SAT考试中,写作作为最后一部分的选考项,总考试时间共50分钟,学生需完成一篇分析性写作。每篇文章前都会给到prompt,这个prompt都是相同的问题:

evidence, such as facts or examples, to support claims.

reasoning to develop ideas and to connect claims and evidence.

stylistic or persuasive elements, such as word choice or appeals to emotion, to add power to the ideas expressed.

之后便是文章,考生通过阅读分钟,分析文章主旨和运用的手法,结合prompt来写出一篇分析性写作。

SAT写作分数评分分为三个部分,即阅读/分析/写作。由两位老师进行评分,对每个评分项给出1-4分的分数,然后再相加,得出最后分数。

SAT写作虽然变为了选考,但是大部分美国大学,依旧要求学生递交SAT写作成绩,所以可见目前的写作仍旧需要重视。

 

我们用3月亚太SAT写作阅读来举例分析:

3月份同学反馈回来的写作成绩来看,College Board2018年的写作打分上面,仍旧维持2017年的标准:阅读要求考试能理解作者的main idea, main purpose, 以及idea development;分析部分仍旧考核学生对作者的argument approach 所使用的写作技巧的深度分析;写作能力部分的打分沿用学术写作标准。今天咱们就第一项技能-阅读理解-部分,分析下6-8分的差异。

 

3月的写作分数中,同学阅读分数大都分布在6-8分的范围。6分的同学共同的问题是作者写作目的没看明白, 或是分析作者阶段写作目的时,没有把原文的statements摘录出来,写入自己的essay里面充当证据(这个部分属于reading comprehension能力体现,因为只有在同学看明白了作者的思路逻辑,才有可能把自己的阅读分析,和原文的statements衔接起来)。

 

要看懂作者的写作目的,其实只需要把每一段的主题句找出来,分析作者idea的起承转合,就不难看出来作者本篇文章的main purpose. 咱们用20183月份的亚太真题做例子:

第一段主题句: Egypts future lies in its history, particularly its archaeological history.

 

第二段主题句:But thieves are raiding our archaeological sites and selling their findings to the highest bidders.

 

第三段主题句:Egyptians need the people and the government of the United States to support our efforts to combat the systematic and organized looting of our museums and archaeological sites.

 

第四段主题句:Egyptian antiquities are flooding international markets.

 

第五段主题句:Although arrests were made in this case, and two auction houses in Jerusalem canceled the sale of 126 antiquities after being contacted by Egyptian officials, the tide unfortunately flows in the other direction.

 

第六段主题句:Looting is a centuries-old business and a crime that Egyptians will no doubt be fighting for years, especially during difficult economic times.

 

第七段主题句: In the Aug. 14 attack on the Malawi National Museum, in Minya, more than 1,000 items were taken:

 

第八段主题句:Every day, Egyptians risk their lives to prevent organized gangs from stealing our heritage.

 

第九段主题句:It is our common duty, in Egypt and around the world, to defend our shared heritage.

 

咱们现在把九句话连在一起看:

Egypt’s future lies in its history, particularly its archaeological history. But thieves are raiding our archaeological sites and selling their findings to the highest bidders. 九句主题句合在一起之后,是不是就是本篇文章的浓缩?咱们可以把九句话拆分成problem (第1-2句)- solution(第3句) - why this solution works (第4-6句) - why this solution is urgently needed(第7-9句)。 这样去理解本篇文章,就不难看出,作者写作的目的是很明确的:埃及的文化遗产正面临毁灭,背后的因素已经超出埃及政府所能控制的能力范围,解决这个问题需要世界各国齐心协力,尤其是世界强权国家的介入(这里出现了写作目的:美国,协助埃及保护人类共同的文化遗产,这是你身为世界强权国家的道德责任。),如果美国不重视这个问题,那么人类的历史将变得残缺不全。同学之后的考试时,如果再遇到problem-solution的文章,那么solution就是本篇文章的写作目的。把作者的写作目的在开头段就分析出来,那么,阅读分数基本有6+

 

下一步,咱们来冲7+。 作者原文的关键句子,摘录到我们自己的essay里面,充当我们阅读理解的证据。 例如,要分析作者如何证明美国必须协助解决埃及文物盗窃,我们可以摘录原文第四到六段的内容来支持我们自己的阅读理解。

"To justify the appeal to US government in aiding Egypt to stop the looting of Egyptian heritage, the author shifts the focus from domestic concern to international scope. In paragraph 4 and 5, the author first presents a hope to the audience that Egypt was able to talk into Christie’s authority in London to withdraw stolen items from the tomb of King Amenhotep III; immediately after this moment of relief, the author talks about the “unwillingness to cooperate of other auction houses to delay or cancel sales of items that experts assess have been stolen” after the contact by the Egyptian foreign ministry. This emotional roller-coaster ride not only proves that this heritage theft is an international crime that requires assistance from the world’s dominant country like America, but at the same time, leads the audience to take the potential threats done by international criminals seriously. "

引用原文时,咱们可以把原文改写,或是直接用引号抄写原文内容。做到引用原文来支持自己的分析就能证明我们的reading comprehension能力无碍。

 

最后,要拿到完美的阅读8分,必须把作者全文的逻辑扩展分析出来。3月份的文章如同先前说的,是一篇标准的problem-solution文章。 problem-solution类型文章标准的思路是:提出问题,提出解决之道,说明为什么这个解决之道是最佳方案,再说明如果不解决这个问题,后续的成本代价将会非常严重。透过这样的逻辑思路,作者就完成了整篇文章的写作目的:说服读者支持作者的solution方案。同学是任务就是,正确拆分原文段落,按照problem-solution的标准写作思路,拆分成4body段来分析。这样的写作方式,不但能在阅读部分提供满分的可能性,在写作部分也能加强通篇essay的逻辑衔接。
